Confirm the unit number, floor, elevator availability, stair turns, and the closest lawful loading point. Apartment access can shape the job as much as the item list.
Measure the narrow points
Record the width and height of the tightest doorway, elevator opening, stair width, low landing, and sharp turn. Add the widest, tallest, and deepest dimensions of bulky pieces.
Coordinate shared spaces
Ask the property contact whether the elevator needs a reservation or protective pads and whether loading has a time limit. Do not assume one building’s rules apply to another.
Leave a clear exit path
Keep hallways, door swings, and stair landings open. Put keys, documents, medication, and valuables somewhere that will not be confused with the removal pile.
Cleanout planning checklist
Know what needs another disposal route
Paint, chemicals, fuels, medical waste, pressurized containers, and other regulated materials should not be mixed into an ordinary moving cleanout. The City of Redlands excludes household hazardous waste and electronic waste from its bulky-item collection program. Check the responsible local authority for current options.
Send useful photos and a real deadline
Take one wide photo per room, then close photos of large or unusual items. State when the property must be clear and whether that deadline is tied to a lease handoff, sale, cleaning appointment, or moving-truck departure.
